DGS MIND
provides low level support for twenty seven
single people, aged eighteen and over who
have enduring mental health problems or who
are in the process of recovery.
|
The
accommodation offered is in five different
locations; either in converted houses or in
purpose built blocks. Two of the flats are
shorthold tenancies where it envisaged that
tenants will be well enough to move on to
general needs housing within two years. The
remaining flats are assured tenancies where
no limit is put on the time of stay, however
in all cases tenants wishing to move on are
given help, if required , in making their
decision and support for up to six months
after the move.
|
 |
 |
All flats are
self-contained and are fully furnished and
equipped. Rents and council tax payments are
normally covered by housing benefit but
tenants pay their own utility bills to
encourage independent living.
|
Tenants are
visited by support staff every week. The
level of support given will vary according
to the needs of the person receiving the
service at any given time but will generally
average about 5½ hours per week. We do not
offer any kind of personal care as we are
not funded to do this and our staff are not
trained in this field. There is no charge
for the support we give as this is funded by
the government’s Supporting People Scheme.
|
 |
 |
A Support Plan
is written at the beginning of the tenancy.
The plan will identify the person’s needs
and goals and how staff can assist in
meeting these. Housing workers and tenants
work together on this plan and, because
circumstances change, support plans will be
reviewed every six months or more frequently
at the request of the tenant.
|
Our service is offered from Monday to Friday
from 9am to 5pm. We also have an emergency
out of hours service when the office is
closed and staff are not available.
|
 |
All
accommodation and contents are maintained to
a very high standard of safety and repair.
